Chesterfield TMJ Treatment

No More Headaches with Dental Care

Preferred Provider for Most Dental Insurance Plans

Not another headache! You just woke up and there it is again – that aching jaw, pain shooting in your neck and the dull throbbing that you know will probably last all day.

If you are tired of living in constant pain, talk to Dr. Larson and Wildhorse Dental about whether you may be suffering from temporomandibular joint disease (also known as TMD or TMJ disorder). TMJ disorder is actually a very common malady, and it affects millions of Americans.

What are the Symptoms of TMJ Disorder?

Most people with TMJ disorder suffer from at least two of these symptoms, but we have seen people with ALL of them!

  • Headaches or migraines
  • Stiffness or soreness in the neck, shoulders and back
  • Tingling of the fingertips
  • Insomnia
  • Sensitive teeth
  • Clenching or grinding
  • Dizziness
  • Ear congestion
  • Ringing in the ears
  • Limited mouth opening

What Causes TMJ Disorder?

TMJ disorder can be caused by many things. It can be a result of stress, clenching, an accident or other trauma, poorly balanced bite or improper chewing mechanics. It can even cause whole body pain and discomfort! Only a properly trained and experienced diagnostician can determine what steps it will take to evaluate and treat your condition.

What Can Dr. Larson do to Help?

Dr. Larson uses a variety of therapies to help relax your jaw muscles and allow your jaw to find its ideal position with the help of a custom-made occlusal (bite) guard. This occlusal guard balances your bite and protects your teeth from further damage. We also work with a physical therapist and a chiropractor to help you get your whole body back into ideal balance. Finally, once balance has been restored, Dr. Larson will work with you on strategies and treatments to maintain your comfort.

None of our treatments require surgery and our patients tell us that the relief from pain is life changing!

As always, my last visit was a pleasure. Everyone is so polite and the new location is great….and this is from a former hater of anything that had to do with a dental visit.
